The Faith Academy of Marble Falls girls basketball team lost to Waco Live Oak 39-23 Feb. 9 to end the regular season.
The Lady Flames, who are the fourth place team out of District 3-3A of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools, will travel to face Houston Northland Christian, the District 5-3A champions, at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at 4363 Sylvanfield Drive in Houston.
“We’re going to try to do our best and see how far we get in the playoffs,” Faith head coach Kat Canada said.
Faith Academy’s Ella Cozby got the scoring going in the opening 27 seconds thanks to connecting on a 3-pointer then dropped in another for a 6-3 advantage. Morgan Weems added a reverse lay-up for an 8-5 lead.
But Live Oak went on an 8-0 run take a 13-8 lead going into the second period.
That run went to 14-0 until Claire Poage scored a 3-pointer midway through the quarter to trim the deficit to 19-11. Cozby and Weems each scored to bring the Lady Flames to a 21-16 deficit at the half.
Live Oak’s full-court trapping defense, where they stepped in front of passes and got to the ball first, paved the way for the final outcome. The Lady Falcons outscored the Lady Flames 18-7 in the third quarter for a 39-23 lead.
Cozby connected on five of Faith’s six 3-pointers and finished with 17 points followed by Weems with six, Natalie Weems added four, Claire Poage dropped in three, and Audri Poage finished with one.
Canada commended her athletes for playing hard and not giving up throughout the contest.
Before the tip-off against Live Oak, Faith honored McKenzie Ahrlett, its only senior.
“She plays her heart out,” Canada said. “She is our momentum shifter our scrambler, our energy bringer. We’ll miss her.”
